BULLY AN ORIGINAL

As we gear up to launch ISSUE TWO: ROOTS & CULTURE this fall, it’s only right that we pay homage to the ones that have paved the way for us. Needing no introduction Adidas is a household brand with deep roots in hip hop: having since been linked to pioneers of the culture like RUN DMC, Grandmaster Flash & Queen Latifah. With this year marking the 50th anniversary of hip hop, we teamed up with Adidas to create a new point of reference for the now iconic originals collection.

"THIS IS OUR POINT OF INSPIRATION"

What does Roots & Culture mean?

Well, for us the meaning is two fold: it is the theme of our second issue set to be released this fall & it's the source of our inspiration as a print & online publication. Let's break it down: when we say Roots & Culture we have an unwavering dedication to tell origin stories from around the world: Thoughts and truths that centre around people, places and passions in the world of fashion, music, culture and communities.

How do you define being an original?

Being an Original is about taking a stand for what you believe in and standing out amongst others, making your mark in society and creating your own path. Being who you are and moving to the beat of your own drum. Be LOUD, be PROUD, be YOU, BE AN ORIGINAL.

What impact does Adidas have on the culture and how does BULLY contribute to that today?

Adidas has had a MAJOR impact on the culture especially when it comes to music & fashion. Songs like "My Adidas" by RUN DMC have recontextualized the brand to include marginalized communities. Today, BULLY is on a mission to not only include folks in marginalized communities but to uplift them and give them a platform to share their stories.
